Home Made Almond Milk

Almond milk is very simple to make and perfect if you use milk every day and don't want cows milk full of hormones or genetically modified soy milk. Also, the leftover pulp is perfect for making homemade protein  bars.

Home Made Almond Milk
Ingredients
Almonds (1 cup)
Water (3 cups)

Note: Almonds should be raw, not toasted and ideally blanched (skin removed) but whole almonds will also work

Equipment
Blender
Cheese Cloth
Bottle or container (mine is from Ikea)
Funnel (optional)

Instructions

  1. Soak almonds in water for 6-24 hours (longer makes it smoother), ideally change the water half way through
  2. Drain the almonds, rinse and discard the water
  3. Add the almonds and 3 cups of water into a blender and blend for 1 min or until a smooth liquid
  4. Poor the milk through 4 layers of cheese cloth into your container (This is where your funnel comes in handy)
  5. Save the left over almond pulp to make protein bars (post to come soon)

Sustainability
Reuse a bottle or container instead of throwing it away and buying a carton of milk.

Money Saving Tip:
Find a local distributer of nuts and buy in bulk. In Singapore I use Phoon Huat in Singapore to buy bulk seeds, nuts and dried fruit. Also buy Organic nuts from Le Bono

Nutrition Info
Almonds are agreat source of protein and healthy fats. Remember if you're trying to lose body fat you should not eat more than one handful of healthy fats per day, these fats should come from nuts, cheese, avocados, fish, soy milk and flaxseeds. Blog on healthy vs unhealthy fats to come.
